Welcome to the ashhurst.org website.
This site is dedicated to introducing people who didn’t know to one of the jewels in the crown of Aotearoa New Zealand. By exploring the site you will find why I think this area is truly wonderful.
Although part of the city of Palmerston North, Ashhurst is a distinctive community in its own right; some 3000 people living in a village atmosphere a few minutes drive, through attractive countryside, from the remainder of a city of 80000 residents. All of the city facilities are available but little of the hustle and bustle.
While all towns and cities have many overlapping community groupings, Ashhurst is unique in my view for being a strong community where the many regular groups collaborate for the greater good. Ashhurst has a community spirit and strength that is out of proportion to its size.
One feature of the Ashhurst area is the Domain – a many-faceted parkland which includes a sports ground complex, a marvellous children’s playground, bush walks and wetlands, an historic cemetery, a viewing site for the nearby wind farm, and a charming restaurant.
I am delighted to have Ashhurst residents among the people I represent on the City Council.
