From the Mayor of Palmerston North
Welcome to Ashhurst,
The Village sits under Mount Wharite in the Ruahine Range at the convergence of the Pohangina and Manawatu Rivers – it is a gateway to the Manawatu Gorge.
It is a scenic location, and the nearby windfarms add to the vista. Just 10 minutes from Palmerston North, it is close enough for the convenience of the city life but with the lifestyle only a village can provide.
There is a bright future for the Village - It is growing and is popular with cyclists, particularly on the weekends. I believe it will continue to grow, sustainably, as more and more people discover: the Manawatu Gorge Walk, The Ashhurst Domain, The Ashhurst to Palmerston North shared pathway (first stage complete) and the Pohangina Valley.
This website helps locals and visitors keep in touch, to tell Ashhurst’s stories and promote local businesses – local businesses and organisations are important to maintaining strong, healthy communities – please buy local.
The Palmerston North City Council is involved in many projects and every month I try to outline those which have particular reference to Ashhurst in the Village Voice. It also contains times for ‘Meet the Mayor Sessions’ in the Ashhurst Library – Please do come along if you want to have a chat.
All the best
